May 20, 1965 — A 16-year-old boy luckily escaped injury in Luray at 11:05 Tuesday morning of this week when his bicycle ran into the side of a moving Norfolk and Western locomotive at the Campbell Street railway crossing.

The boy, Eddie F. Bowman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Bowman, of First St., Luray, was taken to the Luray Clinic for a check-up and released.

Police report that the lad ran around the end of the guard bars and crashed into the left front side of the engine which was traveling between 25 and 30 miles per hour at the time.The front of the bicycle was considerably damaged.

Highway traffic at both the Campbell Street and East Main Street R.R. crossing was tied up for 30 minutes following the accident. Deputy Sheriff Wayne Strickler and State Trooper R.M. Dodson investigated the mishap.
