‘A single blood donation can save up to three lives’
~ Press release provided by American Legion Post No. 22
LURAY — Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood for surgeries, cancer treatments, childbirth, anemia, serious injuries, blood disorders, and more. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, a single blood donation can save up to three lives.
In Page County, volunteer blood donors are the only source of blood for patients requiring urgent care. Unfortunately, the number of Page people choosing to donate blood isn’t keeping pace with the need. Without more active support, our hospitals could run out of blood. This could leave doctors unable to save patients in critical need.
For those healthy and eligible, members of American Legion Post #22, Luray, request everyone strongly consider donating one pint of greatly needed blood. By donating just one pint, that donation could be the difference between life and death.
By choosing to participate, donors become a vital part of the solution for having a continual supply of life-saving blood available. That generosity can provide hope and a second chance for those in critical need.
American Legion Post No. 22’s next blood drive dates are Wednesday, March 19, noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, April 9, also noon to 5 p.m.
Confirm availability and schedule an appointment by contacting the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or go to https://www.redcrossblood.org .
The public’s generous donation can make a difference to millions of Americans — especially people in our own community. Many people have hesitations about donating blood, but to address these concerns, the Red Cross can debunk some of the most common myths that deter potential donors and answer all your questions about blood donation.
American Legion Post No. 22 is located at 106 Zerkel Street, Luray, VA 22835.
