LURAY, Dec. 16 — Although things got off to a slow start on Friday night, the Luray Bulldogs lead the entire way as the home team captured a 46-24 win over the Generals of Mountain View in an early season Bull Run District matchup.

Luray’s Jillian Parlett provided some fireworks in an otherwise lackluster game as the junior hit five shots from beyond the arc for a game-high 15 points. Senior Jaidyn McClung also added a three-pointer and a 6-for-10 effort at the free throw line to also post a game-high 15 points.

Mountain View struggled all night, committing more than a dozen turnovers, but saw great play from senior guard Bre Franklin, who hit four three-pointers for a team-high 12 points. Junior forward Ava Pittington saw some success in the paint and put up six points on the night, followed by senior guard Mya Councill with four.

Both teams struggled to get their footing out of the gate, as the score sat at 7-3 in favor of Luray after the first eight minutes. The Bulldogs went on a 16-8 run in the second quarter and took a 23-11 lead into the half.

The Generals played even with the Bulldogs in the third as each team only scored eight points, but Luray’s 15-5 run in the final frame put the game away.

The Bulldogs played sound fundamentals and rarely turned the ball over, but Luray started the game going 0-for-10 from the floor and hit their first basket with 10 seconds left in the first frame. Luray’s shooting was a dismal 19 percent (7-for-37) from the field through the first three quarters and only 60 percent (15-of-25) from the free throw line for the game.

In addition to Parlett and McClung putting up a combined 30 points, junior Emily Donovan and senior Lindsey Bly each added six points, while junior Summer Forder had four.

The win moves Luray to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Bull Run District. Their lone loss this season coming by two points at the hands of Class 3 Turner Ashby on Dec. 8. The Bulldogs now face two roads games before Christmas, traveling to Rappahannock on Tuesday and Stuarts Draft on Thursday.

With the loss, Mountain View drops to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the Bull Run. The Generals also have two road games next week, traveling to Stuarts Draft on Monday and Page County on Thursday. PVN Sports will provide commentary for the Page/Mt. View game next Thursday night at PCHS.
