Free quarterly workshops designed to help current and aspiring business owners better understand how business lending works

LURAY — Entrepreneurs and small business owners in the Northern Shenandoah Valley will have a new opportunity this year to strengthen their ability to access financing and grow their businesses through the Capital Access for Small Business Program, offered by People Inc. Financial Services.

The program features a series of free quarterly workshops designed to help current and aspiring business owners better understand how business lending works and how to prepare their businesses to successfully obtain financing. Participants will learn practical skills such as how lenders evaluate loan applications, how to strengthen credit and financial records, and how to position their business for long-term financial success.

“In rural communities, entrepreneurs are often incredibly resourceful, but may not always have easy access to capital or financial guidance,” said Leslie Currle, Business Advisor and Lender, People Inc. Financial Services.

“Through the Capital Access program,” Currle continued. “We’re helping local business owners better understand how lending works and giving them practical tools to strengthen their businesses. When our small businesses succeed, our entire community benefits.”

Special loan funding is also available through People Inc. Financial Services specifically for businesses located in Page, Shenandoah, and Warren counties, expanding opportunities for rural entrepreneurs who may face challenges accessing traditional capital.

Page County Workshop Series

Workshops will be held at the Luray-Page Chamber of Commerce (Luray-Page County Visitors Center inside the old depot, 18 Campbell St., Luray) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, March 25
  • Friday, June 26
  • Friday, September 25
  • Friday, December 18

Each workshop lasts approximately 90 minutes and is open to entrepreneurs at all stages, from individuals considering starting a business to established small business owners preparing for growth.

The sessions will cover topics such as the 5 C’s of Credit, common reasons business loan applications are declined, and practical steps business owners can take to strengthen their financial readiness.

People Inc. Financial Services is a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that provides small business lending, business advising, and financial education to entrepreneurs across the region. CDFIs are mission-driven lenders that focus on expanding access to responsible capital for individuals and communities that may have difficulty obtaining financing through traditional sources.
