HARRISONBURG, April 6 — Two local high school golfers qualified for the Region 2B golf tournament after strong performances in the Bull Run District golf tournament held Tuesday at Spotswood Country Club in Harrisonburg.
Page County High School’s Ryan Comer shot a 98 to earn a tie for 12th place among the 40 golfers who competed in the district tournament. Comer also earned second team All-District honors as well.
Luray High School’s Rece Graybeal shot a 99 on Tuesday to slip into the eighth individual regional qualifier spot.
Madison County had six golfers post scores of 99 and below to take the team title in the Bull Run District, while the Mountaineers’ Jackson Tyler stroked a 79 to win top honors at the tournament. Madison had three golfers finish among the top five in the district.
East Rockingham posted two golfers in the top five and claimed second place team honors.
Top finishers on Tuesday named to the All-District first team were:
• Jackson Taylor (79) — Madison County
• Matthew Johnson (81) — East Rockingham
• Cai Clark (85) — Madison County
• Dean Breeden (86) — Madison County
• Chase Clem (87) — East Rockingham
• Emily Racer (87) — Stonewall Jackson
Comer and Graybeal were among eight individual qualifiers who will advance to regionals, along with the six-man teams from Madison and East Rockingham.
The Region 2B golf tournament is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, April 12 at Spotswood Country Club in Harrisonburg.
