Dear Editor:

Now that Todd Gilbert has resigned his seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, the 33rd House of Delegates District Legislative District Committee (HD33 LDC) will select a Republican nominee to replace him on the November ballot. Rockingham County Supervisor Dewey Ritchie, Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation Chief Executive Officer Keven Walker, BluePoint ATM Solutions Chief Operating Officer Justin Pence, Strasburg Vice Mayor Ashleigh Kimmons, and I have applied. It is now up to Sheriff Timothy Carter, who holds a 50.23 percent weighted majority on the Committee, to choose one of us.

Then why did I bother to apply? Since I took office on the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors, Tim and I have not gotten along. As Sheriff, he increased spending dramatically. He built a Taj Mahal for himself at the north end of Woodstock from the proceeds of a questionable cigarette sting operation. He’s had close to a five-fold increase in the number of deputies since he was brought into Shenandoah County. He spends 80 percent more per capita than Rockingham County, resulting in $4 million annual waste. He lost accreditation for his department. He inappropriately inserted himself into a murder trial on behalf of the murderer. He is being sued for $850,000 by a former deputy for clearly and wrongfully firing. But Tim’s vote alone can choose our next representative in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Why am I, after having my license to practice law revoked, running? Because it was revoked after decades of fighting the Establishment on behalf of little guys, like the mentally disabled brothers whose 116 acre farm near the Shenandoah Caverns interchange was swindled from them. What may have particularly offended the powers that be in Richmond recently was my fighting for Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Lord Fairfax, Patrick Henry, and Donald J. Trump. Fortunately, I have the right to appeal, which I am exercising, and my lawyer and I believe it will be overturned by the Virginia Supreme Court. Also, at any time, I can request a stay from the Virginia Supreme Court, immediately restoring my ability to practice law. This has been granted to me before.

The bottom line is that if I am elected, I will stamp out the corruption we are all aware of in Shenandoah and Page Counties. For Page County, I expect interim U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia Todd Gilbert to dig out his office’s investigation of the mobbed-up Battle Creek Landfill from years ago. Although the statute of limitations has run on the federal crimes, Todd can hand the file to the next Commonwealth’s Attorney of Page County. The statute of limitations hasn’t run on any of the numerous Virginia felonies that were committed. And they weren’t just committed by members of the mafia. Landfill owner Marvin Bush and his protector, then Governor Mark Warner (who appointed the director of the corrupt landfill as his Director of Environmental Quality), were under active federal investigation before a high-level deal was struck and everything was swept under the rug.

So, not only could local politics result in Senator Mark Warner’s retirement with his replacement chosen by Governor Glenn Youngkin, but maybe the $13 million in Marvin Bush’s debt that the citizens of Page County baselessly assumed can be paid back to them.
