Concerns about FirstEnergy’s transmission tower rebuild between Luray and Sperryville

PowerLines

Dear Editor:

Residents of Rappahannock and Page counties share a deep appreciation for the landscapes that define our communities. That is why many of us are growing increasingly concerned about FirstEnergy’s proposed transmission tower rebuild between Luray and Sperryville.

According to company documents, FirstEnergy seeks to replace existing wooden towers with taller metal structures. These towers would rise above our ridgelines, altering views of the Park that both counties treasure. These views draw visitors, support property values, and speak to the rural character we all work so hard to protect.

FirstEnergy has estimated the project will cost roughly $46 million. That cost will ultimately be borne by us, the ratepayers across the region, yet the company has provided few details and very little opportunity for the public to ask questions or understand alternatives.

Here in Sperryville, we are organizing to press for transparency, community input, and a clear justification for the scale and design of this rebuild. We invite Page County residents to join us by signing a change.org petition (https://c.org/qDv2bkVZsb) and keeping informed by following “Protect Sperryville’s Viewshed” Facebook page.

Together, we can advocate for solutions that maintain reliable energy while preserving the beauty of both Page and Rappahannock County.
