March 20, 1986 — Bill Stephenson is howling mad at his new neighbors.
The newcomers are coyotes and Stephenson, a retiree who tends sheep on his Rileyville farm, fears the intruders may attack his herd and other farm animals in the Springfield area.
Stephenson recently told the Page County Board of Supervisors that since last Sept. 28 seven coyotes have been shot, trapped or run over by automobiles between Springfield and Luray.
Stephenson, who tends 55 ewes, two rams and about 70 lambs each winter, hopes to put the coyotes out of business before they threaten his livelihood.
