Age 91, Elkton, Va.
Delores Jean Sullivan Turner, 91 of Elkton passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 at Journey’s Crossing surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born June 10, 1932 in Shenandoah and was the daughter of the late Homer W. Sullivan Sr. and Nellie Virginia Dean Sullivan.
She attended Shenandoah High School and was a member of the East Point Independent Church near Elkton. She was a member of the Blue Ridge Council No. 149 Jr. O.U.A.M. Ladies Auxiliary. Jean also enjoyed working at the festivals, carnivals and Fields Day in the cook shacks until she no longer was able. She loved talking to people and enjoyed spending time at McDonalds in Elkton with her friends; but most of all her special friend, Marie Merica. Jean enjoyed her picnics in the summer with her families. She loved planting and working in her garden; especially her flowers. She had worked at the Shenandoah Knitting Mill and Alliance for many years before retiring.
On June 26, 1953, Jean married the love of her life, Edward J. Turner Sr. who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward J. Turner Jr.; sister, Vicky Sullivan Roudabush; brothers, Clyde E. Sullivan and Homer W. Sullivan, Jr., her son-in-law, Andy Merica Sr. and her precious cat, “Peaches”. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Shirley A. Williams of Elkton; a son, Jason P. Turner and wife, Jamie of Grottoes; a brother-in-law, Doug Roudabush of Shenandoah; nieces, Angel Phillips of Elkton, Patty Sullivan Abrahams of Missouri; nephew, Scott Roudabush of Shenandoah; grandchildren, Andy C. Merica Jr. of Elkton, Maria Williams of Elkton, Jay and Jadah Turner of Grottoes, Nathan Turner and wife, Heather of Elkton, Kristin Heiston and husband, Chip of Shenandoah; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Mason Merica, Jenna Turner, Ethan McDonald, Maverick and Londyn Heiston, Maya and Loxley Turner and Quorra Puglisse. Jean also loved a very special little girl, Gracie Lilly Faye Hensley.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2024 at the Kyger funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with Pastor Roger Riggleman, Harold Smith and Brian Phelps officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
Shirley and Jason would like to give an extra special thanks to the staff and residents of Journeys Crossing in Elkton for the care and friendship they gave Jean as well as Legacy Hospice during the last months of her life.
