Virginia Regional Transit conducting survey on local transportation needs

LURAY, Dec. 3 — Less than two weeks remain before the deadline to complete a survey about Page County’s public transportation needs. A $50,000 study is being conducted by the Virginia Regional Transit, in partnership with many local agencies, to gauge public opinion on the need for public transportation options for commuters, residents or those who don’t drive.

While VRT provided the bulk of funding through grants, the Town of Luray and the Town of Stanley contributed funds, as did Page County and Luray Caverns. The James Madison University Reach Program and the Valley Health Foundation are also contributing to the study.

The feasibility of developing a public transportation program to serve Page County is the primary focus of the study. The survey aims to gauge public opinion on those needs.

VRT currently provides public transportation in several counties and municipalities in Virginia, including neighboring Shenandoah County. “The agency has been approached by area stakeholders concerning the possibility of providing public transportation in Page County,” according to a press release.

The study team is requesting area residents to complete the survey

  1. A bus with bus stops would provide helpful services for the less fortunate. We have plenty of people who would benefit from this upgrade to the town.

  2. I think this would be a wonderful service for Page County it would be very helpful to some .Providing transportation to the elderly& young to places like School, work, appointments, shopping or just to visit .

  3. Ahhh. More government, higher taxes for all. You think the federal grants are going to pay for this? Trump is going to slash the entire damn government. No more free federal dollars. The max $2 fare proposed won’t begin to pay for this. So we’ll pay the difference in higher property taxes. Show us the money when you survey us about our attitudes. Otherwise it’s unfunded government mission creep.
