Age 80, Waynesboro, Va.
Donald Ray “Donnie” Wilson, age 80, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Born on March 2, 1945 in Stanley, Virginia, he was the son of the late Earl Junior Wilson and the late Dorothy Mae Harlow (Wilson) Mumaw of Stanley, Virginia.
Donald Wilson is survived by his wife, Danette Painter Wilson of Waynesboro, VA, both enjoying a beautiful marriage lasting 61 years. Also surviving are two sons and one daughter: Todd D. Wilson of Springdale, AR, Aimee L. (Wilson) Baker of Staunton, Va. and Tim (Camille) Wilson of Fishersville, Va. Four grandchildren including: Josh (Catherine) Wilson of Waynesboro, Va, Zachary Wilson of Fayetteville, AR, Matthew Wilson of New York City, NY, and Charlea Wilson of Bradford, TN. Two great grandchildren including Baker Wilson and Weston Wilson of Waynesboro, Va.
Don was employed and retired as an operator and supervisor at DuPont with 35 years of loyal service. While at DuPont, he was able to travel to Holland, Germany and Iran. After retirement, he held positions at Ecolab, Parker Bows, and Augusta County schools as a bus driver and substitute teacher. He was a known presence for many years as a football, baseball, and basketball coach in youth sports.
Other than his wife, children, and other family members, he considered one of his greatest accomplishments to be the inclusion of the Stanley Sandlot Baseball records into the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. In his earlier years, Don was an avid fisherman and hunter, loving to bass fish and turkey hunt. He loved taking trips with family and friends to Nascar races. He was a social butterfly, as he never met a stranger. Ultimately, his greatest love was spending time with family and friends.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the entire staff at the Augusta Health Radiology Department, the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, and the Shenandoah House.
Visitation will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, VA, followed by a chapel service at noon. There will be no graveside service immediately following.
Tim Wilson, along with family members, will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shenandoah House in memory of Don.
