December 4, 1986 — A Shenandoah man, who apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, drove his car through the right front window of the Shenandoah High’s Dairy on U.S. 340 Monday morning.
No one was injured in the accident which caused over $4,000 damage to the store, according to Shenandoah Police Chief Harry Armbruster.
Armbruster said the incident occurred at 11:48 a.m. when Peter Howard Elftad, 76, of the 100 block of Trenton Ave., was operating a 1976 Pacer south on U.S. 340 when he turned left into the High’s lot.
Armbruster said Elftad apparently was attempting to stop the vehicle when “it accelerated through the right side window of the store. He apparently stepped on the gas instead of the brakes.”
