Age 73, Elkton, Va.
Earl Bradford Shifflett, 73, of Elkton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, October 10, 2024 with his wife, daughter, and granddaughter, Lauren by his side. Earl was born January 27, 1951 in Elkton, Virginia to the late Oliver “Bum” Shifflett and Mary Gladys Shifflett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Ann Cook.
Anyone who knew Earl can attest to the deep love he had for his Lord and his family. Better known as “Papa” and “Deddy”. He was dearly loved by his family. His wife of 51 years, Patricia Sue Shifflett was the love of his life and they cherished each other even more as they grew older and health issues arose for both. They took care of each other on a daily basis. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He always looked forward to Sunday dinners and holidays when we could all be together. His family will always remember him as the strongest man they knew.
Earl worked for N&S Railroad for 17 years before going to Coors for 14 years. His favorite hobbies were gardening, mowing and taking special care of his animals. He had a passion for growing food, preserving and giving to his family. He always enjoyed when the great-grands would come to help pick vegetables, strawberries and blackberries. It always brought him such joy just to watch them.
Earl “Papa”, “Deddy” will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. The memories of him will always be kept alive. As a family, we know without a doubt he is celebrating with Jesus. Though our hearts are shattered, it brings joy and peace knowing his heart was right and he was ready.
Earl is survived by his children, Brad Shifflett and wife, Julie and their children, Haley Gray (Ryan), great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Owen, Dalton (Ashley), Kalynn (Hezekiah) Cross; daughter, Bridget Baugher and husband, Timmy and their children, Lauren (Colton) Hensley (who was like his own daughter) and great-grandchildren, Remington, Ella and Caroline, these 3 girls worshipped their “Papa” and didn’t go more than a few days without visiting Papa and Mawmaw. To say they were his world is an understatement; grandson, Tanner Baugher (Elizabeth) and great-grandchild, Adaline; Adam Shifflett and wife, Natalie and their children, Harley, Emma and Willow; brothers, Oliver “Dickie” Shifflett (Faye), Dale Shifflett (Kay) and his sister, Betty Roach.
Earl was proud of each and every child, grandchild, great-grandchild and prayed for each one when they left his home. No matter the need, we could always count on Papa and Mawmaw to pray.
A Funeral Service will be conducted 11 a.m., Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Shenandoah Assembly of God, 311 Comertown Rd., Shenandoah, Virginia with Pastor Carter Dean officiating. Burial to follow at Elk Run Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
