February 21, 1991 — The Page County Landfill Study Committee considered eight potential sites Tuesday night, seven of which are in the Stanley area.
Jim Reynolds of Joyce Engineering brought eight possible areas to the committee after the board of supervisors gave the firm the nod to look in areas zoned woodland conservation. The committee previously studied other sites and found no suitable area.
Reynolds said that the majority of the Woodland Conservation District was eliminated primarily because of significant visual and noise impact or close proximity to populated areas.
“In addition, most areas to the far north and south were eliminated because of the long hauling distance and the supervisors wish to keep a landfill near the center of the county,” Reynolds noted in the report.
