December 9, 1965 — The Luray Fire Department paid the balance due on its building fund debt this week, it was announced by Robert Lillard, treasurer, at the Department’s regular monthly meeting Tuesday night.
The final building fund notes marked “paid in full” were burned in a brief ceremony as about 40 members of the fire department looked on and applauded.
Commenting on the debt payment, treasurer Lillard praised every member of the fire department for assistance in raising the necessary money.
He stated that the accomplishment was not due to any one member, but was due to everyone’s efforts.
