Flora Ellen Painter Good, 87, of Luray, entered the glory of God’s eternity on Friday, January 7 at her residence. Ellen was born on November 19, 1934 in Page County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Arthur and Laura Painter.
On November 19, 1951, she married her beloved husband, Bobby Good, who preceded her in death in 2010.
Ellen was a faithful Christian and lifelong member of Newport Church of the Brethren. She had the joy of transporting generations of students as a school bus driver for Page County Public Schools.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Avis, Willard and Winston Painter; a sister, Ethel Knighting; and a grandson, Joey Good.
Surviving are her children, Donnie Good and wife Glenda of Luray; Valerie Burch and husband David of Mt. Sidney; and Vanessa Peters and husband Ed of Luray. She is also survived by four grandchildren, David Good (Kelly); Laura Kalama (Ryan); Allison Burch; and Tyler Burch (Abbey); and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ellen’s compassion for others knew no bounds. She always held a special place in her home, at her table and in her heart for anyone needing shelter, a hot meal and words of wise encouragement.
A Celebration of Ellen’s Life and Eternal Homecoming will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13 at Painter’s Woods located at 160 Painter’s Woods Road, Luray VA 22835.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to The American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
The family is indeed grateful for the loving care Ellen received in her years of battling cancer by Dr. James Dale and the respective staffs of Page Memorial Hospital, Kindred Hospice and the Sentara RMH Hahn Cancer Center.
