Floyd Thomas Alther, 70, of Stanley Va, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025 at his home. He was born August 10, 1954 in Fauquier Va, and was the son of the late William Alfres Alther and Neva Clara (Wharton) Alther.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Winston Alther, William “Joe” Alther, Wade Alther and one nephew.

A man of many passions, Floyd enjoyed fishing, hunting and tending to his garden. He believed in hard work and was dedicated to it his whole life; working tirelessly right up until his passing. Floyd was known for his friendly nature and the ability to make friends everywhere he went. His warm spirit and generous heart touched many lives.

Floyd was a loving and devoted father to his only daughter, Nikkie Lynn Alther Hoke of Stanley; and a proud caring Paw Paw to his six grandchildren, Jacob, Mason, Jagger, Jaxon, Charleigh, and Memphis. His love for his family was the greatest treasure of his life. 

A Celebration of Floyd’s life will be held 5 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2025 at Riverview Independent Gospel Church in Stanley with Pastor Jeff Lucas officiating.

Floyd’s legacy of love, hard work and friendship will forever remain in our hearts. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help offset funeral expenses.

Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, Va.
