April 7, 1887 — Last Tuesday evening as Dr. Keller was driving into town his horses took fright on Main Street opposite Mr. F.W. Berry’s hardware store and ran at great speed from that point to the corner of Main and Water streets where they encountered a woodpile and becoming detached from the buggy ran violently down Water Street.
The Dr. and his driver, Charles, with great presence of mind kept their places in the buggy and managed to keep in the middle of the road, and were thus rescued without injury. The horses were badly scarred about the legs, though not seriously damaged.
The scene, as a runaway, was one of the most dangerous ever witnessed on our streets.
