Senior Taylor Hankins has lead the Page County High School softball team to a 5-0 start during this shortened 2021 spring season with a dominating pitching performance that has only allowed one run by opponents through five games.
In three wins that Hankins picked up last week, the senior hurler recorded 33 strikeouts and posted two no-hit, shutout performances.
On Friday, Hankins was one batter away from a perfect game, as the only runner for Strasburg that advanced to first base was hit by a pitch. In the first inning, Hankins fanned three straight Strasburg batters on nine consecutive pitches. The senior threw a first-pitch strike to 12 of 16 batters she faced on Friday.
The Panthers (5-0) have a key matchup Monday afternoon with the only other undefeated team in the Bull Run District, Clarke County (4-0), before they hit the road for two games, traveling to Rappahannock on Tuesday and East Rock on Friday.
