LURAY, May 10 — Sophomore Connor Hilliard had a solid outing on Friday for a Luray baseball team looking to contend for a title in next week’s district tournament. In five innings, Hilliard only allowed one earned run on three hits, while striking out five and giving up no walks against rival Page County. The sophomore also went 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles and two RBI.

Hilliard’s effort at the plate and on the mound was a big part of the Bulldogs’ second slaughter-rule victory over their county rivals this season. Luray put together a dozen hits to win 11-1 on Friday. The Bulldogs beat the Panthers 13-3 on April 22 at PCHS.

Luray (7-6, 8-9) has now won four of their last six games heading into their regular season district finale this afternoon at 5 p.m. against Central (5-7, 6-12) at Bulldog Field (weather permitting).

The Bull Run District Tournament starts next week and currently the Bulldogs sit in a three-way tie for third place with the Panthers and Clarke at 7-6 in district play. Madison and Strasburg are tied at the top with a 9-4 mark in the Bull Run.

Luray will hit the road for a non-district matchup and the actual regular season finale with Buffalo Gap at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 16.
