James Ashby ‘Jim’ Fielding

Age 84, Elkton, Va.

James Ashby “Jim” Fielding, 84, of Elkton, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg.

Jim was born August 1, 1940, in Rockingham County, Virginia, and was the son of the late John William, Sr., and Margaret Angeline Gooden Fielding. On September 17, 1960, he married Ann Good Fielding, who also preceded him in death on November 14, 2016. 

Jim retired from Merck & Co. in Elkton as a supervisor after many years of service. He enjoyed traveling, following his favorite sports teams, golfing, and attending Linville Congregational Church. He was a member of Merck Rod and Gun Club, Shenandoah Moose Lodge 2176, Shenandoah VFW, Post 8613 Avis Comer; he also attended events at AMVETS Post 7.

He is survived by two daughters, Debi Coleman and husband, Scott, and Lori Fielding; a brother, John W. Fielding, Jr., and wife, Sharon; two grandchildren, Megan Bartholf and husband, Scott, and Madeline Coleman, as well as three great-grandchildren, Nadia and Noelle Bartholf, Beau Iery, and one more boy on the way.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2025, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville, with Pastor Gerald Meeks officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, Va.
