James Edward Lucas, 74, of Stanley, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.
He was born on December 23, 1948, in Stanley and was a son of the late Hayward Earl Lucas and Lelia Ester Lucas.
James was a member of the Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren in Stanley.
On July 2, 1993, he married Sharon Annette Powell Lucas, who survives.
Surviving an addition to his wife are four daughters, Sharon Lucas of Shenandoah, Janet Smith (Allen) of Luray, April Lucas of Elkton, and Becky Sours (Charles) of Luray; two sisters, Barbara Stanley of Shenandoah, and Margie Lucas of Stanley; two sisters-in-law, Dawn Lucas of Shenandoah, and Susan Campbell of Stanley; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Michael Hilliard of Stanley.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Earl Lucas and Roger Lucas; and two grandchildren, James Merica and Chandra Lucas.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023, at the Leake’s Chapel Church by the Rev. James Kite, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Leake’s Chapel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in his memory.
