January saw low temps and 11.5 inches of snow

January in the Page Valley typically averages 6.5 inches of snowfall

STANLEY — Temperatures for the month of January were below average, with an average afternoon high of 37.6 degrees — 5.4 degrees below the January average high of 43 degrees.

Total snow for the month was 11.5 inches — or 5 inches above the January average of 6.5 inches. Snow was recorded on four days during the month. The ground was snow covered for 21 days during the month. In the past 57 years, there have been three Januarys with no measurable snowfall (1972, 1974 and 2023). The snowiest January on record was in 1996, with 37 inches.

High temperatures for January climbed into the 50s on four days, the 40s on 10 days, the 30s on eight days, the 20s on seven days and only into the teens on two days during the month. The high for the month was 58 degrees on Jan. 29. The warmest January on record was in 1974, where the average afternoon high was 52.6 degrees. The coolest January was in 1977, where the average afternoon high was only 35.2 degrees.

The average daily low temperature for the month was 22.3 degrees — or 2.8 degrees below the
January average low of 25.1 degrees. Low temperatures for January dipped down into the single digits
on five days, the teens on seven days, the 20s on nine days, the 30s on eight days and into the 40s on
two days during the month. The low for the month was four degrees on Jan. 22.

Total rain (and snow melt) for the month was 2.44 inches, or 0.26 inch below the January average of 2.70 inches. The wettest January on record was in 1978, with 7.59 inches of rain. The driest occurred in 1981, with only 0.23 inches of rain recorded.

The peak wind gust for the month was 47 mph on Jan. 31.

Weather records broken during January 2025 include:

• January 19 — single day snowfall of 2.5 inches; previous record of 2.25 inches in 2022.
• January 22 — minimum high temperature of 18 degrees; previous record of 21 degrees in 2014.

Other statistics for the month include:

• 20 clear to partly cloudy days (17 avg.)
• 11 cloudy to mostly cloudy days (14 avg.)
• Zero days with dew (two avg.)
• 10 days with frost (eight avg.)
• Zero days with fog (two avg.)
• No days with a thundershower (zero avg.)
