Year-to-date rainfall 4.4 inches below average

STANLEY, August 1 — Temperatures for the month of July were above average, as the mean temperature was recorded at 79.1 degrees, up just over three degrees. The 56-year average mean temperature for July is 75.9 degrees.
The average afternoon high temperature for the month was 90, or 2.9 degrees above the average high temperature of 87.1 degrees. High temperatures for July climbed above 100 degrees on one day, the 90s on 18 days, the 80s on 11 days, and in the 70s on one day during the month. The high for the month was 101 degrees on Tuesday, July 16.
The average daily low temperature for the month was 68.2 degrees, or 3.5 degrees above the average low temperature of 68.2 degrees. Low temperatures for the month were down into the 50s on two days, the 60s on 14 days and in the 70s on 15 days during the month. The low for the month was 54 degrees on Tuesday, July 2.
The warmest July on record was in 1999, where the average afternoon high was 92.1 degrees and 26 days reached the 90-degree mark or higher. The coolest July was in 2000 (one year later), where the average afternoon high was only 81.2 degrees with only two days above the 90-degree mark.
The total rainfall for the month was 1.46 inches, or 2.67 inches below the July average of 4.13 inches. The calendar year-to-date rain total is 19.11 inches, or 4.36 inches below average. While two months (January and May) have produced more than 4 inches of rain, three of the last four months have produced less than two inches of rain.
The driest July dates back to 1983, with only 0.61 inches of rain recorded. The wettest July was in 1970, with 8.44 inches of rain.
The peak wind gust for the month was 29 mph on Monday, July 29.
Records tied or broken during July 2024:
• July 4 — maximum low temperature of 73 degrees; previous record of 72 degrees in 1999.
• July 10 — maximum low temperature of 78 degrees; previous record of 75 degrees in 1992.
• July 16 — high temperature of 101 degrees, which tied the record in 1988.
• July 31 — high temperature of 95 degrees, which tied the 1999 record.
