We deserve better

Letter

Dear Editor:

Tired of ever-inclining costs? The continued high and increasing cost of groceries, gas, diesel, fertilizer, healthcare, housing, childcare, electronics, farm equipment, interest rates on credit cards and mortgages — well, almost everything.

It’s no wonder: so many policies out of Washington cause those higher prices — the needless war in Iran, ongoing tariffs, detaining and deporting legal migrants (which causes a shortage of workers in agriculture and construction), federal policies that encourage more and more data centers.

Meanwhile, Washington has shredded the social safety net — wiping out subsidies for Affordable Care Act health coverage, cutting Medicaid, cutting support for rural hospitals like Valley Health, cutting food assistance and cutting funding to treat substance abuse.

Our Congressman Ben Cline supports all these policies.  He’s a cause of inclining costs.

It’s time to De-Cline him.

In November, vote for change: Vote for Beth Macy for U.S. Congress.

Why Beth Macy?  Because throughout her decades as an investigative journalist and in her political campaign, she continues fighting corporate greed, fighting the opioid epidemic, and working to bring jobs, affordable healthcare, housing, and education to rural communities.

Unlike Mr. Cline, she’s for protecting farmland and water from even more data centers and for protecting jobs from artificial intelligence; she wants to protect Social Security, wants to enact a legal right to repair, and declines to take political contributions from Big Pharma and Big Ag.

It’s time for a change.  Vote Beth Macy for Congress.

Tom Ford ~ Luray, Va.

  1. For many people, this year’s election is not so much about partisan politics, party labels, or ideology— it’s about cost of living. “Living” means access to basic necessities like affordable healthcare, housing, education, electricity, groceries, gas and transportation. The key question is which candidate supports policies that put those necessities out of reach— like tariffs and foreign wars— and which one will change them.

    • We should be grateful that the IRGC is being decimated, but they are even worse than American and allied intelligence knew about. It is a good thing Trump has uncovered what these disgusting religious fanatics have been doing for decades. There can be no “deal” with them.

      • Disgusting religious fanatics (Christian Nationalists) have been exacting damage on the country ever since Saint Ronald opened up the doors on Capitol Hill to them. The country will start showing them the door on Election Day this year.

  2. Ask Beth:
Does she repudiate the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the Socialist platform?Does she believe in a secure border and the sovereignty of the United States of America?Does she believe Federal laws should be enforced?
Does she believe that only American citizens should be allowed to vote in elections?
Does she believe that biological males should be allowed to participate in women’s sports?Does she agree with Abigail Spanbergers policy supporting artificial intelligence and data center development?
Does she believe in Government price controls or a free market economy? Does she support a Medicare for all policy that would end health insurance programs offered by employers (including public school systems) across Virginia?
    Ask Beth.

    • Compared to Ben “I do whatever Trump tells me to” Cline’s ads? Blathering about “Democratic socialism” and “boys in girls bathrooms” and “Democrats coming to take your guns?” That formula worked like gangbusters for Winsome Sears last year.

  3. Although I can’t speak for Beth, my guesses are:

    1. Does she repudiate the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the Socialist platform? Why should she? Did Ben Cline repudiate the Tea Party? Does Ben Cline repudiate the fascist-leaning efforts of the Trump administration?

    2. Does she believe in a secure border and the sovereignty of the United States of America? I’m sure she does, as we all do. But she also believes in due process, citizens right to protest without fear of getting shot in the back, not putting children on planes to Africa or in cages before getting a trial, and not spending billions on a useless wall along the Rio Grande River.

    3. Does she believe Federal laws should be enforced? Yes, which is more than we can say about who Ben Cline supports.

    4. Does she believe that only American citizens should be allowed to vote in elections? I’m sure she does.

    5. Does she believe that biological males should be allowed to participate in women’s sports? Ah, the idiotic strawman question that certainly helped Winsome Sears last year….

    6. Does she agree with Abigail Spanbergers policy supporting artificial intelligence and data center development? I believe she doesn’t. And newsflash, Dump supports AL and data center development too.

    7. Does she believe in Government price controls or a free market economy? I’m sure she does. And she won’t take corporate or PAC money. She believes in grassroots fundraising. Contrasted to PAC King Cline.

    8. Does she support a Medicare for all policy that would end health insurance programs offered by employers (including public school systems) across Virginia? She supports a health care policy that brings the United States into the 21st Century.

Now excuse me as I plan my trip to Lake Ontario in October, and then the Gulf of Mexico in January.
