John Andrew Lineberger, 58, of Washington, D.C. and Luray, VA passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022 at Winchester Medical Center.
He was born September 13, 1964 at Lancaster, Ohio and was the son of Miriam Arleta (Oatney) Lineberger of Lancaster and the late Henry Ivan Lineberger.
John held a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts Degree from Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) and enjoyed a significant career in public relations. He was a senior designer for Greenfield/Belser Limited; owned an art design company, John Lineberger Design; served as art director at Ketchum Public Relations; worked at the French Embassy as a graphic designer for France magazine; served as Edelman Public Relations’ Senior Vice-President Director of the S.E. Region of the United States for 10-plus years; and was Chief Operating Officer (COO) of marketing and operations for a company he founded, Fairfax and Page Estate Sales.
John was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal, Capitol Hill and served as leader for Unite Page VA, a diversity group he organized.
He and his husband, Jeff Sponaugle, were companions since January 3, 2003 and married on April 1, 2019.
Surviving in addition to his mother and husband are one sister, Laura Lineberger (and wife, Beth Lauriat) of Montgomery Village, Md.; one nephew, Jared Lineberger (and wife, Marilyn) of Lancaster, Ohio; three nieces, Jessica Studebaker (and husband, Matt) of Worthington, Ohio, Janice Zielinski (and husband, Jason) of Black Lick, Ohio, and Kim Hamner (and husband, Kevin) of Massanutten, Va.; three great-nieces, Harper, Scarlet and AnnMarie; four great-nephews, Emerson, Jonathan, Leo and Nicholas; his beloved four-legged companion, Azura; and a host of friends.
Two brothers, Kevan Lineberger and Craig Lineberger, a sister-in-law, Cathy Lineberger, and a great-niece, Amelia Lineberger preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends at the Kimble Funeral Home, 80 South Main Street, Franklin, WV 26807 on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 1 to 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Laura Lockey officiating.
Interment will follow at Blue Grass Cemetery in Blue Grass, Va. Jared Lineberger, Kevin Hamner, Mike Jones, Jeff Taylor, Don Harrell, John Wolf, Rhonda Fisher, Bill Fisher and Carey Verba will serve as his pallbearers.
