Dear Editor:
I write to thank all of our patriotic citizens who attended and supported The American Legion’s Post #22 Annual Veterans Day Celebration.
It was made very special because our Mayor of Luray, Jerry Dofflemyer, was present as our Guest Speaker. Mayor Dofflemyer spoke on the meaning and importance of being a Veteran of U.S. Military Service, protecting all of the freedoms most of us take for granted every day. Following the Mayor’s speech, the Mayor was presented with an American Legion Certificate of Appreciation by Post #22 Commander Richard Worrell. Soloist Doug Gochenour sang the National Anthem, inviting all to sing along.
The celebration included members of the VFW Comer-Jones Post #621 (Luray), whose participation met a critical need by being the co-host of this event. Together, American Legion’s Miller-Campbell-Baker Post #22 and the Comer-Jones Post #621 provided the Honor Guard, which presented the U. S. Flag, along with The American Legion’s flag and the Veterans of Foreign Wars flag. Post #621’s Junior Vice-Commander, Brandon Tester, gave a warm welcome to all attending. Post #621’s Chaplain, Jeffrey Stoneberger, gave the Benediction at the conclusion of the celebratory event.
Following the program, a buffet style meal was provided by Post #22, with assistance from the Post #621 Auxiliary. This consisted of roasted pork loin, vegetables, spiced apples, and a selection of fine desserts.
The members of Post #22 are pleased with this year’s event and look forward to next year.
For God and Country
Richard Worrell, American Legion Commander ~ Miller-Campbell-Baker Post #22, Luray, Va.
