August 20, 1987 — One of Luray High School’s pressing problems is the need for a track according to new athletic director H.D. “Doc” Brown.
Brown said many of the school’s athletes are running in places where they could be injured.
“If I had one goal while holding this office, it would be to develop a track,” he said Monday.
Brown said Luray’s squad is always at the other team’s home track because of the situation. He feels a track would also benefit the community as a whole.
“There’s a lot of runners/joggers in the area and this would benefit them as well as our school,” he said.
There are people in the community who can be very active in raising money for the facility, Brown explained. He said the project will require a great amount of help from volunteers.
