Age 96, Luray, Va.
Margueritte Beatrice Wood Sedwick, 96, of Luray, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Whispering Pines Assisted Living.
She was born on November 11, 1927, in Rileyville, Va and was a daughter of the late Raymond Wood and Viola Beylor Wood.
On December 21, 1945, Margueritte married Joe Kirby Sedwick, who died on July 11, 1994.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Douglas Sedwick (and wife Sandy) of North Carolina and Scott Alan Sedwick (and wife Lisa) of Luray, and; four grandchildren; Paula Jo Sedwick Breads, Robin Sedwick and Steven Sedwick all of Maryland and Stacey Sedwick Pfleiger of North Carolina; five great-grandchildren; Jackie Cleaveland, Faith Breads, Melanie Bond, Colin Breads and Ashley Breads all of Maryland; and four great-great-grandchildren Cassidy Cleaveland, Brinley Cleaveland, Bryce Bond and another Baby Breads on the way.
She was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Rodney Sedwick; three sisters, Gertrude Mayes, Cora Anne Updike and Katheryn Triplett; and two brothers, William Wood and Douglas Wood.
After raising her family in Maryland, Margueritte and Joe moved back to Virginia in 1980 and settled in Luray. She worked for Aramark on The Skyline Drive at several different locations, and later worked delivering auto parts for her niece Jean Beaver where she became affectionately known as “Granny”.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 15, at Beth Eden Lutheran Church in Luray.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, at Beth Eden Lutheran Church by Pastor Sandy Wisco. Margueritte’s burial will be at the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray. A meal will be served directly after the service at the American Legion post in Luray hosted by the women of Beth Eden Lutheran Church.
