Age 89, Elkton, Va.
Martha Ann Breeden Downey, 89, of Elkton, Va passed away May 20, 2024 at Journey’s Crossing Assisted Living in Elkton. She was born January 27, 1935 in Page County and was the daughter of the late John and Elva Breeden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Randolph Shifflett; daughter, Wanda “Faye” Angle; grandson, Nathan Scott Downey; daughter-in-law, Donna Shifflett and a sister, Fonda Lou Painter.
Martha worked at Blue Bell as a seamstress for 30 years and retired from Perdue. She enjoyed playing cards and was a fantastic checkers player. She attended Blue Ridge Independent and Harriston Christian Center. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Forrest Downey of Elkton; step-mother, Linda Vance Breeden of Shenandoah; sons, Danny Shifflett and wife, Sherry of Elkton, Dennis Shifflett of Elkton, Randolph “Randy” Shifflett and companion, Debbie Roach of Elkton, David “Scott” Downey and wife, Jill of Elkton; daughters, Mary Taylor and husband, Richard of Elkton, Lori Leathers of Harrisonburg, Angel Price and husband, Michael of Elkton; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2024 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Carter Dean officiating.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
