Age 88, Stanley, Va.
It is with great sadness that the family of Martha Ann Shipman Painter announces her passing. She died on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the age of 88.
She was born on June 12, 1935, in Arlington and was a daughter of the late Henry Shipman and Helen Gant Shipman.
Martha worked for the Genie Company in Shenandoah for 10 years. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If the weather was right, you would find her outside working in the yard, if not she would be busy on a project inside her Stanley home.
On April 29, 1952, she married Billy Page Painter, who died on November 29, 2022.
She is survived by three sons, James Painter and wife Cindy of Chesapeake, and Randy and Daniel Painter, both of Norfork; two daughters, Dixie Medeiros of Gloucester, and Patsy Bear and husband George of Delaware; two sisters, Barbara Sigler of Arlington, and Betty Munden of Norfolk; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Page Painter Jr.; and a brother, Eugene Francis Shipman.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, at the Bethlehem Independent Christian Church in Stanley by Pastor Andy Seastrom. Burial will be in the Stanley Advent Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 on Friday, January 12, at the church.
