LURAY, Feb. 2 — A Sunday morning blaze destroyed a Mechanic Street home; however, there was no one inside the structure when it caught fire.
The Luray Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at 10:33 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2 for a structure fire. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the two-story wooden structure was engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the structure, but they were unable to save the home.
While no dollar value was estimated, the home was deemed a total loss. The owner’s name was not given, and it is unclear whether anyone was actually living at the residence at the time.
Responding from Luray’s Company 1 were Engines 9 and 12, Tanker 1, Tower 1, and 26 volunteer firefighters. Medic 230 personnel, officers with the Luray Police Department and deputies from the Page County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the incident
Stanley’s Engine 25 served as a back-up at the Luray station during the incident.
The fire department reported no injuries during Sunday’s blaze. Law enforcement is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
