This dapper fella is Baron!
Baron is an approximately 3-5-year-old tuxedo. He had already been neutered and vaccinated when he came in. Baron was a member of an outdoor colony of cats that had been TNR’d (trapped, neutered, returned) by a local organization. The folks who trapped him thought he was too nice (and too handsome) to simply be an outdoor cat for the rest of his life. Thus, he was brought to us to find him a more suitable home.
Unfortunately, Baron tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, also known as FIV. It is very similar to AIDS in humans and is sometimes referred to as feline AIDS. FIV just means that Baron has a weakened immune system and is more vulnerable to illnesses than other cats. FIV is NOT contagious to humans in any way, but can be contagious to other cats. However, FIV does not typically spread through everyday interactions like eating/drinking from the same bowl or social grooming. FIV is usually spread through bites or when a mother gives birth to kittens. Cats with FIV often live long, happy, and fulfilling lives.
Baron’s sweet and sassy demeanor delights everyone he meets! It can be hard to resist his charm! He enjoys being affectionate and can’t wait for you to come over and visit with him. If he finds he’s having a hard time getting your attention or if you turn to walk away from him, he has a secret weapon: Baron loves to dance! He seemingly likes to save his tap dancing for an audience of one as, every time we have tried to call someone over to watch, he stops! He’s gotten what he wanted from you, after all.
