Missing plane in Blue Ridge

Old country road

July 30, 1964Nearly a dozen planes were searching the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Elkton area Tuesday and Wednesday for a light plane reported missing with two Elkton men aboard.

The Page County Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday afternoon no trace of the missing aircraft had been found at the time and that a group from Charlottesville had joined in the search.

Aboard the plane were Elmer Leon Davis, 38, and J. Richard Bloxom, 47, both of Elkton.

They were returning from a weekend fishing trip at Pocomoke City, Md. The men were not reported missing until late Monday because their families believed they had remained for an extra day of fishing.

The single-engine Aerocoup was last seen at Gordonsville where it stopped to refuel Sunday on the return trip.

Gordonsville is about 35 miles east of the airport near Elkton. But the Blue Ridge Mountains lie between.

The mountains reportedly were shrouded by fog Sunday.
