May 17, 1990 — Charles Buracker was unanimously chosen as the new mayor of Stanley last week.
Buracker was appointed by the town council May 9 to fill the term of Vance Bryant who stepped down because he had moved outside the town limits.
In accepting the appointment Buracker praised the town council.
“Whoever sits here as mayor has a good council to work with,” he said.
Buracker has been on the town council since 1975 and also served two terms in the 1960s.
Council member Richard Good said, “I’m definitely in favor of this … We’re fortunate to have a person as qualified to do the job for us.”
Councilman Doug Purdham, who nominated Buracker for the mayoral appointment, was chosen as vice mayor, Buracker’s previous position.
