JOLLET HOLLOW, Aug. 27 — For the second time in two months this summer, a fatal shooting has been reported in the Jollett Hollow area of southern Page County.

“On Sunday, August 27, 2023, the Page County ECC received a 911 call indicating that an individual had been shot in the 3000 block of Jollett Road,” reads a press release issued by the Page County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday afternoon. The address is listed as Elkton, but the location sits within the southern border of Page County near Naked Creek.

“Deputies arrived to find the victim, Seth Hizer, 30, deceased from a gunshot wound,” the report indicated. “Page County Sheriff’s Office Investigators responded and processed the scene.”

Initial reports on social media indicated that the “chest wound” was potentially self-inflicted. However, further investigation by the sheriff’s office indicated otherwise.

“During the preliminary investigation, this incident was determined to be an isolated event and at no time was there a threat to the general public,” Thursday’s statement reads. “This incident has no connection to the previous incidents in the Jollett Hollow area.”

Timothy Thomas Comer quickly became a suspect in the June 29 fatal shooting of Gregory Lee Williams, 69, in the 5600 block of Jollett Road. On July 13, authorities took Comer into custody, ending a two-week search that involved Virginia State Police, U.S. Marshals and federal ATF agents.

Investigators now believe that Sunday’s shooting along Jollett Hollow Road may have resulted from a fight between Hizer and “another male subject.”

“At this time, witness statements and forensic evidence at the scene, indicate that an altercation between Hizer and another male subject had occurred,” the statement from the sheriff’s office reads. “During that altercation, a firearm was introduced and a struggle over the firearm ensued. During the struggle, the firearm discharged, fatally striking Hizer in the chest.”

The sheriff’s report indicates that Hizer’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Manassas for an autopsy, and results are still pending.

At this time, no charges have been filed.

“We would like to thank our law enforcement and first responder partners that responded to the scene to assist. We would also like to thank the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney,” Thursday’s press release reads. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this tragic event.”
