May 4, 1989 — Mary H. Long of Luray has retired after 32 years as a nurse at Page Memorial Hospital. A licensed practical nurse, Mrs. Long’s experience was mainly on the medical surgical unit.
“When Page Memorial delivered babies, I worked in the delivery room. I loved working with the mothers and babies best of all,” she commented.
Some of the changes, she notes, included the hours a nurse was expected to work.
“We were paid a monthly sum, regardless of the hours we worked.” Mrs. Long said. “Many times we worked 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and returned for the 3 p.m. shift on the same day.”
She attended Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
