LURAY, Oct. 17 — The Page County Recreation Department is now holding open registration for its 2023 boys basketball season for those in grades K through 8. The boys season will open play on Nov. 13 and run through Jan. 19. The girls rec league basketball registration begins in December, with the season running from late January to March 22.
Page County’s Recreation Program Coordinator Andrew Good said the 2022 season was the department’s first for basketball since the COVID-19 pandemic subsided. Last year the program drew more than 100 boys and more than 70 girls that signed up to play on 21 teams (between the two leagues). Both leagues have three divisions of players — Junior (grades K-2); College (grades 3-5); and Pro (grades 6-8).
The boys season will open Monday, Nov. 13 and utilize gymnasiums at Springfield, Luray and Stanley elementary schools.
The deadline for boys registration is Friday, Nov. 3. Middle school boys may sign up after middle school basketball tryouts. The registration fee if $40 per player. There is a price break for households with three or more kids registering — a discount of $5 per child.
