New 15-minute, weekly YouTube show will dive into various issues in the Page Valley, while also reporting the Week in Review and checking out the Weekend Ahead
By Randy Arrington
LURAY, Oct. 25 — This week “Page Valley Livin'” previews upcoming Halloween events scheduled for this weekend through Tuesday, Oct. 31 in Luray, Stanley and Shenandoah. A section of Main Street will be blocked off in Luray and Stanley, while Shenandoah has ghost stories planned at the Museum and a costume parade down at River Park.
In the second installment of our series, local officials in all three towns share the details of planned events, as well as their favorite choice of Halloween candy. Our interviews take us from the Luray-Page County Visitors Center at the old depot in Luray, to between two coffins sitting outside the Stanley Town Hall, to finally the Town of Shenandoah Museum and Visitors Center.
Jackie Wood, program director for the Luray Downtown Initiative, tells us why Luray decided to shut down a portion of Main Street for the first time this year. Town Manager Terry Pettit says Stanley made the switch to blocking off Main Street a few years ago at their Block Party, which grew to more than 1,000 people last year. Lora Jenkins, curator of the Shenandoah Museum, tells us all about a renowned storyteller coming to share ghost stories, and the Town’s annual “appetizer” to trick-or-treating — a costume parade down at River Park on Oct. 31.
(Page Valley Livin’ ~ Episode 2 was recorded on Monday, Oct. 23 and first aired Wednesday, Oct. 25).
Coming up on Page Valley Livin’…we’re working on shows that will reveal the preparations being made for Election Day (Nov. 1); we’ll review the results of the “big day” (Nov. 8); we’re hoping to talk with those behind a proposal to build a new visitor’s center for the county on Route 211; and we’re trying to schedule a sit down with a local teenage hunter who’s already known all across the country and beyond.
The aim and purpose of these videos are to provide more information about more things that make up the wonderful place we call the Page Valley of Virginia. Serious issues will be handled seriously, while lighter issues may offer more opportunity to have some fun. There is no theme or agenda other than promoting the Page Valley, and trying to better inform the people who both live here and those who love to visit.
