October 28, 1965 — The Page County Panthers, with fullback Buddy Alger leading the way, scored a 34-0 victory over the Stonewall Jackson Generals in a District 10 football game last Saturday night at Shenandoah.
Alger took the opening kickoff and raced 85 yards for a touchdown to give the Panthers a first period lead of 6-0.
In the second period, Alger broke through the middle of the Stonewall Jackson line and ran 41 yards for his second touchdown. Quarterback Ricky Kite went over for a TD on a two-yard sneak and Doug Burner added two extra points in that period to put Page County in the lead at half-time, 20- 0.
In the third period, Eugene Kiblinger scored for Page County on a run of 12 yards around left end, while in the fourth quarter Kite passed to Donnie Knighton for a touchdown on a play that covered 51 yards. Burner kicked two more extra points in the second half as he made four during the game.
The win gave Page County a 2-2-1 record in the district and a 3-4-1 for the season.
In its most serious threat of the game, Stonewall Jackson reached Page County’s 13-yard line when time ran out.
