ELKTON, Feb. 21 — Page County High School had two teams playing for a championship on Friday night.
The junior varsity Panthers opened up the night against Strasburg prior to the varsity title game in the Bull Run District tournament.
Strasburg opened up a 17-4 lead after the first seven minutes, but Page settled down and outscored the Rams 9-7 and 16-9 in the second and third quarters.
Three-point shooting by freshman Jacob Williams and solid production all night from sophomore Tyler Rodriguez helped bring the Panthers to within four, 33-29, heading into the final frame.
Page would only hit two shots from the floor in the final seven minutes, while going 4-for-6 from the line. Strasburg outpaced the Panthers 16-9 in the fourth with strong play from sophomore Kameron Cooper and eighth grader Walker Conrad.
The Rams claimed the Bull Run District JV championship, 49-38.
Rodriguez led Page on the night with 15 points, including two shots from beyond the arc and 50-percent shooting from the line. Williams had six points with a pair of three-pointers.
Conrad led Strasburg with 20 points.
