QUICKSBURG, Jan. 13 — For the second-straight year, the Page County Panthers will be making a trip to the Region B tournament for scholastic bowl competition in about two weeks, but they won’t have to travel too far. After winning their first-ever Bull Run District title in scholastic bowl last year, the Panthers are hosting this year’s Region 2B tournament a second time on 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 1.
On Saturday, Page County finished district runner-up to tournament champion Clarke County at the Bull Run District scholastic bowl tournament hosted by Mt. View High School. The Panthers defeated Strasburg (190-145) and Mt. View (180-130) in the opening two rounds, before falling to Clarke (225-170) in round three. That win gave the Eagles a ticket to the championship round.
Page won a second match with Mt. View (215-180) to earn a spot in the championship round with Clarke. The Eagles went on take the district title (290-85). Clarke was also acknowledged on Saturday for being the regular season Bull Run champ, as well as winning the tournament title.
Rappahannock, who went 1-2 during the district tournament, will be advancing to the Region 1B Scholastic Bowl Tournament next weekend.
After being a second team selection in the Bull Run last year, Page County’s Summer Kite earned first team All-District honors in Scholastic Bowl at the conclusion of Saturday’s tournament. Other first team All-District selections in the Bull Run included Andrew Miller (Central), Ruth Cassette (Rapp), Braeden Kersey (Clarke), and Liam Ring (Mt. View).
Luray High School’s John Grieb earned second team All-District honors in scholastic bowl. Other second team selections included Wesley Haynes (Strasburg), Najet Rayan (Rapp), Preston Bernier (Clarke) and Noah Bauserman (Mt. View).
Page County will host the 2024 Region 2B Scholastic Bowl Tournament at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1.
