Panthers keep rolling with big win over Bulldogs

Last season's Bull Run and Region B Player of the Year Bailee Gaskins lead the Panthers through another strong season.

SHENANDOAH, April 19 — The Page County Panthers softball team moved to 11-1 on the season and remain a perfect 6-0 in the Bull Run District after a dominating 23-1 win over county-rival Luray on Friday.

Page County ran through the lineup twice in the first inning, sending 18 batters to the plate in the first inning and scoring 12 runs off seven hits and one error. The Panthers would pick up five more runs in the second and six more in the third, even after multiple substitutions.

PCHS senior Arianna Roudabush, a Division II commit to Coker College, went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, while fellow senior Adryn Martin and freshman Ara Marshall both went 2-for-4 with an RBI each. In total, the Panthers belted 14 hits and left nine runners on base.

Last season’s Bull Run District and Region B Player of the Year, Bailee Gaskins — also a a Division II commit to Coker College — pitched two perfect innings, striking out five of the six batters she faced over two innings. At the plate, Gaskins went 1-for-1 before being benched midway in the second.

In its inaugural season of rebuilding the softball program, the Bulldogs struggled with the top team in the region. Luray only put four runners on base (two hit by a pitch) and committed nine errors in the field. Freshman Ainsley Couper and sophomore Aubreigh Campbell recorded Luray’s only two hits of the day.

Luray continues to search for its first win as the Bulldogs travel to Madison County (2-4, 2-8) on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. district matchup.

The Panthers (6-0, 11-1) continue to roll through district competition, with their only loss of the season coming to Class 3 Turner Ashby, 3-1, on the road March 27. In their 11 wins this season, Page County has outscored their opponents 141-20.

Next up, the Panthers will travel to Woodstock to take on Central on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Falcons played the Panthers tough in a close, 6-5, decision on March 28 in Page County.
