FRONT ROYAL, Jan. 7 — The Page County High School wrestling team continues to show improvement, as the Panthers picked up a pair of third-place finishes at the Randolph-Macon Academy wrestling tournament on Saturday.
Sophomores Mason Bennett and Jordan Hedrick both went 3-1 on the day and claimed third-place medals at the event, which drew 10 teams to the wrestling tournament. Bennett wrestled in the 132-pound weight class, while Hedrick wrestled at 215 pounds.
“Overall the team wrestled tough…everyone has improved so much. I was really impressed with Mason Bennett…this kid came in 0-5, and lost a heartbreaker in the semi-finals to the eventual champion by a score of 14-12 , before he finished with a 3rd place medal,” first-year PCHS wrestling coach Greg Martin said.
“I was glad to see Jordan Hedrick get back on the podium with a 3rd place medal…his best performance of the year, and he’s starting to look like the same wrestler that made the state wrestling tournament last year,” Martin added.
Freshman Michael Shifflett, wrestling in the 138-pound weight class, came up just short of the podium after going 3-2 on the day at RMA.
Juniors Nick Moore (190 pounds) and Josh Talley (285 pounds) both recorded one win on the day and went 1-2.
