SWOOPE, Jan. 13 — The Page County High School wrestling team continues to show improvement as the Panthers produced four medalists last Saturday at the Buffalo Gap Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Three days earlier, the Panthers defeated Mt. View and Rappahannock in a district tri-meet.

On Saturday, Gap’s Invitational featured 16 teams in the Class 2 and Class 3 divisions with “tough competition, and the Panthers competed well,” according to PCHS head wrestling coach Greg Martin.

“I was by proud of how this team wrestled,” Coach Martin said. “They continue to look better every day, and finished with over 70 points as a team — the best we’ve done in this tough tournament.”

Sophomore Michael Shifflett posted the Panthers’ best performance with a third-place finish in the 144-pound weight class, while going 4-1 on the day.

Junior Kaylee Campbell (106lb) and senior Karma Guinn (113lb) earned fourth-place medals; Campbell went 3-2 on the day, while Guinn was 4-2. Junior Jordan Hendrick rounded out the Page medalists with a fifth-place finish in the 175-pound weight class and a 4-2 record on the day.

Going 2-2 at Buffalo Gap were seniors Nick Moore (190lb) and Alex Perez (285lb).

Three days before heading to Swoope, the Panthers traveled just over the Massanutten to Quicksburg and defeated both hosting Mt. View (33-30) and Rappahannock (39-30) in a Bull Run District tri-meet on Jan. 10.

Campbell went 2-0 at Mt. View — and with her 3-2 mark at Buffalo Gap on Jan. 13 — is now 15-4 on the season. Guinn also recorded a perfect 2-0 mark during the tri-meet, which combined with her 4-2 showing at Gap raises her season record to 15-5. Hendrick also went 2-0 at Mt. View, 4-2 at Gap, and is now 14-4 on the season.

Also going 2-0 during the Jan. 10 tri-meet at Mt. View were Moore and junior Mason Bennett, while Perez and Logan Richards went 1-0.

The Panthers were scheduled to wrestle next on Thursday, Jan. 18, against Clark County and Strasburg, at Central High School. The JV wrestling invitational scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20 at Orange has been cancelled.

Next up, the Panthers will hit the mats at Harrisonburg High School for a quad match at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
