SHENANDOAH, April 25 — Despite a 5-0 loss to Central on Tuesday night, the Page County Panthers have gone 2-2 on the pitch during a recent four-game home stretch. That stretch produced their first two wins of the season, including a 6-0 victory over rival Luray on Friday.
In that win, junior Adam Lucas Paxtor got the Panthers on the board first with a goal at 16:44 in the first half. Despite more than 15 shots on goal, that would prove to be Page County’s only goal in the first 40 minutes, as they went to halftime up 1-0.
Junior Josh O’Neill hit the Panthers’ second goal less than eight minutes into the second half, followed by junior Elliot Montana, who found the back of the net about four minutes later to put Page up 3-0.
Junior Sam O’Neill added another goal at 10:34 in the second half, and then became the game’s leading scorer with his second goal just 17 seconds later.
Sophomore Dawson Richards would close out the scoring with the Panther’s final goal at 6:55.
Luray matched up well with host Page for most of the first half, despite taking much fewer shots on goal. The Panthers’ offense kept pressure on the Luray defense most of the game and missed a number of opportunities in both halves to run the score up even more.
After suffering a 12-0 loss to Madison on Tuesday, the Bulldogs (0-8, 0-10) continue to search for their first win of the season as they travel to Mt. View (4-3-1, 5-3-1) for a 7 p.m. match on Friday, April 26.
After an 0-6 start to the season, Page County (2-6, 2-8) has now won two of its last four games, as they travel to Clarke County (5-1, 7-2-1) for a 7 p.m. match on Friday, April 26. The Panthers fell, 5-0, to the Eagles during their last matchup on April 8.
