~ Athlete of the Week selected by the publisher
LURAY, Jan. 3 — For this week’s “Athlete of the Week” honors, we go back an extra week to recognize a dual performance by two sophomore Bulldogs in their Jan. 3 district matchups with the Generals of Mt. View. Luray’s Ella Parlett recorded a career-high 25 points in the girls, 56-21, home court win; while classmate Matthew Owens hit five three-pointers among his 22 points in the boys, 68-43, victory on the road in Quicksburg.
The boys team currently sits at 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the Bull Run District — good for a fourth-place tie Rappahannock. They next travel to Page County for a rivalry game on Tuesday; however, weather is likely to postpone the double header that is scheduled to tip-off with the boys at 6 p.m.
The girls team is 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the Bull Run — with a three-way tie for second, the Bulldogs currently sit in fourth place. They also face the Panthers next on the road and tip-off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday (or the rescheduled date).
