Plans defended for frontier park

July 19, 1991 — Bill Bryant’s proposed frontier park in western Luray would be “a very fun and very good family center,” according to the developer’s real estate broker. Bob Bridges, who makes his home in neighboring Rappahannock County, addressed about 40 residences of WestLu Meadows during a public hearing on the project before the Luray Town Council Monday evening.

Already, he said, he has had discussions with Marriott concerning the 110-150 unit motel. Bridges said an interested fast food company, which he did not name, is checking with its corporate office about whether it can locate in a log cabin structure, which will be the design for all buildings at the park.

The proposed 143-1/2 acre frontier park, which wraps around Jamesway Plaza and surrounds WestLu Meadows on three sides, includes 34.6 acres of log cabins where artisans and craftsmen can work and show their wares, as well as a recreational vehicle park which could accommodate 150 campers.

The residents of WestLu Meadows are most concerned over the noise and traffic, along with the potential for people to disrupt their neighborhood.
