May 13, 1966 — Pvt. Eldon Yates, of the Fairfax County police, was treated and released from Fairfax County Hospital Friday, April 29, after being struck while directing traffic. But by odd coincidence he will be admitted to the hospital Sunday for major surgery as a result of an accident more than a year ago.
Yates had halted traffic from all directions at a “T” intersection to allow the emergency passage of fire equipment when he was hit.
Yates, 35, suffered concussions to the back of his head and bruises to his right leg. His operation Sunday will involve a bone graft from his leg to his left arm.
Pvt. Yates is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Yates of Luray.
