Railroad may cross Blue Ridge at Beahm’s Gap

Luray Main St old

December 1, 1889 — A correspondent says that an engineer corps, with headquarters at Luray, is now engaged making preliminary surveys across the Blue Ridge for the proposed railroad to run from Luray to Washington city. It is thought the road will cross the ridge through Beahm’s Gap, five or six miles distance from Luray. It is believed that capitalists connected with the Norfolk and Western Railroad are having the surveys made, and that the new road will be built at an early day. Superintendent Flickwir, of the Shenandoah Valley Railroad, has also been over a portion of the ground with the surveying party. ~ Baltimore Sun
